We lead the development of concrete block construction in Finland
In the 1950s, construction in Finland proceeded at an unprecedented rate. It was here that young Aarne Töykkälä saw his chance. When Lammi Municipality was looking for a tenant for the barn at Hakkala Manor, the son from a family of entrepreneurs decided to start building his own story. Töykkälän Tiilikate began operations in August 1956. Aarne knew that growth came from hard work and from listening to customers. He was known as a tireless innovator in production methods and rapidly expanded the product range to meet the growing needs of the construction industry. Houses were built, and confidence in the small cement factory in Lammi grew.
The path to innovation
Aarne was not alone in growing Töykkälän Tiilikate into the Lammin Betoni Group, but the path he chose and his determination continue to shape the company. That path took him from manufacturing products at a cement factory to becoming a product developer in concrete construction. Concrete blocks were recognised as a sustainable solution for construction in Finnish conditions. As a result, the growing family business set out to offer a broader range of solutions for stone house construction, with insulated concrete blocks becoming the focus of its product development. In 1990, Lammi made industry history by patenting and launching the world’s first insulated concrete block.
